20 Questions with Wild Child

Let’s play 20 Questions with the Wild Child!

1.  Favorite color?

I have 2:  pink & purple

2.  Favorite number?

7 – but I couldn’t tell you why

3.  Coffee or tea?

100% coffee.  Lots of it.  And none of those fru-fru drinks.  I like coffee flavored coffee, black.  No cream or sugar.  And bold roasts.  No dishwater coffee.

4.  Sweet or salty?

Yes please! ;)

5.  Favorite food?

Mexican food is my weakness.  I love chicken enchiladas with rice and beans, Chicken burritos.  Tacos. Mmmm Okay, I need to stop now!

6.  What’s your favorite guilty food?

I have so many.  This is a large part of my healthy living struggle.  I’m learning to like healthier foods.  But I like Lucky Charms. Donuts. Bacon.  Milky Way bars.  Ho hos.  BBQ Twists by Frito Lay.  Criscut fries from Carl’s Jr.  OMG – please stop asking food questions!

7.  What is your favorite music or movie?

As far as music, I don’t really have a favorite genre anymore.  It mostly depends on my mood.  I like upbeat songs I can sing to (I’m not the next American Idol though), or songs I can turn up really loud and rock out to!

I could watch Oceans Eleven, The Hangover, Sex and the City, Twilight, and New Moon over and over.  I like comedies and action / adventure movies the most, with the occasional “chick flick” thrown in just because.

8.  Do you watch reality TV?

Ummm – yes!  But not every show out there.  Mostly I watch Biggest Loser and Survivor.  I love those shows!  I have been known to watch Hell’s Kitchen and Dancing with the Stars, but I get bored pretty with them.

9.  What are your top 5 favorite iPhone apps and why?

Runkeeper – hands down, this is my favorite app!  As of today (6/13/10), I’ve logged almost 754 miles in 118 hours in the last year on Runkeeper!   I’ve logged 166.1 miles of running so far in 2010!

Echofon – I love Twitter!  I love having it with me all the time!  This app is my favorite of the Twitter apps (and I tried quite a few!)  I used to use Twitteriffic, which was really good – but Echofon is hands down the best app IMO.

FaceBook – I love social media!  And to think I just started really getting into social media in January 2009!  I love being able to stay in touch with friends and family that might otherwise not be as “close” and also making new friends!

Instagram – I have an addiction to photo apps.  Instagram is my favorite of them all!

Foursquare – because it’s just fun!  And I want to be the mayor of everything!

10.  Just how many tattoos do you have?

I have 9.  And I love every single one of them!

My newest one is my half marathon tattoo.  It is a 13.1 in the theme of my Wild Child Gone Good!

I have the A’s (Oakland A’s, baseball team) logo on my left shoulder blade with a baseball and hearts on either side.

I have a bracelet around my left wrist.

I have a sleeve from my right shoulder down to just above my wrist.  The very cool thing about my sleeve, is that I took the pictures of the lilies and my tat guy traced them and then tatted them on me!  The tribal around them is shaded out, rather than filled in.  I never wanted a solid color sleeve.  There is also my sign (Aries) with a heart hanging off the ram’s horn and Tinker Bell in the lower portion of my sleeve.

I have a lower back piece.  No, not a tramp stamp.  (Not that there’s anything wrong with those.)  It has a butterfly in the middle with tribal and 2 hibiscus flowers on either side.

I have a 4 leaf clover on my bikini line.  This was my first tattoo.

I have a flowery vine type tattoo that goes from my ankle to almost my knee, on the side of my leg.  Both my kid’s names are in this one.

Koi fish that cover the tops of my feet.  They are in the Pisces formation.  (My sun is in Aries) My moon is in Pisces, so that’s why I chose them.

11.  Tell me about your kids.

I am raising a beautiful 6 year old boy (I refer to him as H) and I have an 18 year old daughter.  My relationship with my daughter has been strained for the last few years, but I love her no matter what and I believe one day she will decide to have a closer relationship with me.

My lil’ guy is super active.  He’s played baseball since just after his 4th birthday.  He loves baseball!  He was named after a baseball player, after all!  He’s also taken karate classes, loves shooting hoops and playing Wii!

12.  How long have you been running?

I hated P.E. when I was growing up.  I was a cheerleader, but running?  Um, no thanks!  After H was born, I started my weight loss journey.  I was home one night and stumbled across the Couch To 5K program on the Cool Running website.  When I started, I got side cramps almost immediately.  I remember looking at my watch and praying the 60 seconds of running was over.  That was in 2006.  In May of that same year I ran my first 3K (1.8 miles).  I didn’t really run between 2007 and 2009.  But on July 4, 2009 I ran the Kenwood Footrace 3k.  And I haven’t stopped running since!

13.  Why did you start blogging?

I love to write.  I started reading some blogs, like the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans, and then some of the blogs that the sisters there write.  I started a free WordPress blog and I fell in love with blogging!

My blog is about my internal struggles to overcome my inner (and by far harshest, and even maybe the only) critic. To re-gain the self-esteem and confidence I’ve let get away, and to deal with the struggles of getting through law school. I am also in a (seemingly) never ending battle to get to my goal weight and stay motivated to make healthy food and workout choices. Some days are harder than others.

I want to be a positive, inspiration force.  To myself.  To others.

14. And you are in law school?

Yes, I’m in my last year of law school!  I have been told I’m a bit of an over achiever.  I have to get through one rough writing class over the summer and then have 2 required classes that span my final 2 semesters.  Then, I graduate!  June 2011!  Of course, after that, there’s the matter of that 3 day quiz for the State Bar…

15.  Do you like any arts / crafts?

Actually, I do!  I have been crocheting since I was a little girl.  My grandma taught me (I really miss her).  I’ve entered a couple blankets into our local county fairs and won 1st and 2nd place ribbons.  I’m planning on entering a purse/bag  this year.

I also like to make beaded jewelry.  And take pictures of flowers.  I am entering 2 pictures of roses I took with my iPhone into this year’s fair.

16.  What about outdoorsy?  Do you like the outdoors?

Hells ya I do!  I love camping!  In fact, we camped at Yosemite about a month ago.  That park is probably one of the most beautiful places on earth!  I also like hiking.  I got introduced to river floats in 2010 and I can’t wait to get to the river!

17.  What don’t you like?

Heights.  And roller coasters.  (That falling feeling where your stomach is in your throat is not fun for me.)  Scary movies.  Bananas and Avocados.  (icky)  Closed minded and judgmental people.

Anyone who doesn’t love me for who I am, just as I am.

18.  What do you like to do pamper yourself?

I believe in the importance of treating yourself to pampering regularly.  I enjoy getting a mani / pedi.  I love massages!  I used to be able to afford to get my hair cut and colored by the most amazing hairstylist (Peggy, I miss you!).  And facial treatments – ohhh how I miss those…  Being back in school, severly limits the financial ability for me to spoil myself in the way I would like, but in a couple years…  I will be spoiling myself again!

19.  What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done that you didn’t want to do & were completely scared to do, but when you did it you were sooo happy you did?  Explain why you were scared, why you did it anyways and why you are happy you did it.

This might seem silly, but wakeboarding in 2009.  I tried to water ski once when I was in 8th grade.  I fell and didn’t let go of the rope, so I got dragged.  Ever since that day, I’ve been happy just holding the flag and watching others water ski and wake board.  Last year, we were out on the lake and someone said something that changed everything for me.  I got asked if I wakeboarded, and the person said, “she’s more of a watcher, than a doer.” Now I knew that that person didn’t mean anything malicious by that.  But it got me to thinking, I don’t want to live my life as a watcher.  I want to be a doer!

So, a couple weeks later, I was back out on the lake with some friends.  I decided to go for it.  I was still scared.  I didn’t want to fall and get hurt.  I didn’t want to make an ass of myself.  I would be easier to just keep sitting in the boat.  I had a million reasons to stay in that boat.  But I didn’t want to.  I got all ready.  I was getting directions and advice, but not too much.  It took about 10 or so tries, but I succeeded!  I wakeboarded and it felt great!  I probably don’t need to get out of the boat and ‘board every time we go to the lake, but I will definitely get out there again!

20.  Where did the name Wild Child Gone Good come from?

I was raised by my dad and step-mom.  She was very strict, controlling and judgmental.  I was an honor student, on the student council in junior high, a cheerleader, never cut class or got a tardy.  I never sneaked (snuck?) out of the house or missed curfew.  I sound like a total hellion, right?  Well, I had one night of rebellion in the 8th grade – and then ever since then, whenever she talks about me as a teenager or even in my early 20’s, she makes me out to be this completely out of control kid.  It’s actually funny to me now.

See, now I know that I needed to be perfect in her eyes.  And I just was never able to live up to that.  That “not good enough” mentality is something I work very hard at overcoming.

Of course, if you asked my step-mom, she would say I’m still out of control.  (As well as a slew of other negative things, I’m guessing, since I’ve been excommunicated from her and my dad, but I digress.)  I like to live my life.  I like to have fun.  I’m trying to figure out who I am.  I don’t think I’ve ever been “wild” but if I ever was – it’s now.  I’m having fun with my life.  And I think that’s exactly how life should be lived.

Enjoy your life.  Try new things.  Have fun!  Surround yourself with positive people who love you unconditionally.  Love without limits.  And don’t forget to have fun!

Now you know a bit more about me!  There were a couple questions that I saved and decided were worthy of their own post.  So, if you gave me a question, and I didn’t answer it, it might be answered in the not too distant future.  But if you didn’t ask a question and have something you want to know, I’d love to hear from you too!
